Making Income as a Housewife

Being a housewife or stay at home mum doesn’t mean you cannot make income while at it, it only means you are not on an 8am-5pm schedule work. Women generally are good multitasking beings, we can take care of the home affairs, manage our husband’s, kids and still do something productive to earn income without breaking down, that’s how we were created. The woman is the man’s helpmate, In Proverbs 31:10-31 one of the ways a virtuous women was described is  one who is hardworking, there was even a mention of knitting there as one of the things she does ” She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.  She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant”. So you get it right? You have to come out of your comfort zone and be creative in whatever area you think you can thrive well.

 I know that having to run a home is very demanding on our time and also tasking but I am very sure it is possible, as many women do it and no matter how little the income may be, it is something and trust me, your husband will be proud of you and happy .

A lot of women out there may be confused as to what they can get into that will fetch them income or what it takes to start a particular idea they have in mind. Well this post should cover a great area and answer most of your questions or doubts and also give you ideas or add to the ones you already have. I have outline 3 Categories which include

CATEGORY 1.

HAND-WORK: These are trades or work you learnt either from your parents or from an expert for example Hair making, Tailoring, Baking and production.

Hair Making: You can learn this from any expert in this field which costs about 15-25k depending on your area, and then open up a beauty salon where there is lot of income streaming from it as women make hair every month, children weekly. Not only will you make hair to get income but you can sell a lot of hair products, and beauty picks. From enquiries made  minimal start up for this is about N350k including shop and equipments depending on your area and you can make about 60k+ monthly depending on location too. You can start small by making hair from your home or home services at no cost at all.

Tailouring: This can also be learnt from experts in the field and it cost about 50-100k to learn depending on your area too. This is currentling on of the most popular handwork of all times and it will always be in fashion for long because we all wear cloths now right? It’s amazing how much people pay to look good. To start up, you need a minimal of 500k including shop, equipments and sewing materials, in addition selling of material, beads, custom made african bags/shoes/jewries will increase your income. You can make about 100k+ monthly from this. You can start small with sewing cloths right from your home, start up will be 100k if you chose to start like this.

Baking: Also learn from an expert and open yours. If you are into cake baking you can even do this right from your home starting small or open up a cake baking home which costs about 25-50k to learn. Starting can be based on orders and billings.

Production

This involves making a product from scratch, you can get into tie and dye, or facial products like cream for acne, rashes, or hair growth cream, dandruff,etc. With 50k you can start this if you know how to do it. You must have learnt from experts also.

CATEGORY 2.

BUYING AND SELLING

As the name goes, it involves buying and reselling of goods. This one is so vast as you can buy and sell anything depending on your location. Buying and selling is mostly profitable when you sell goods that consumers demand.

The most common one is buying and selling of food item as everyone eats and it is something we buy daily, weekly or monthly as the case may be. To start this you can start small with 200k including shop rent or average with 500k And anything above is large.

If you know what you are doing and you do it well, along side been patient, you will definitely make steady income from it.
